    Hello,

just wondering if it was possible. I want to add an SSD to the studio 1458 in place of the optical drive. I don't use an optical drive very often, but I will have my SSD from my other system laying around. I know there are brackets, but can someone suggest a good site for them? Also, is it difficult to make such a conversion?

    Thanks in advance guys :)

The Studio 1458 internals show it user a slot-loaded optical drive, probably a 12.7mm tall unit. So likely can do the same optical bay caddy mod done to a XPS 1647 done here to host your second drive.

Ok, now for a few more questions. The SSD is already being used on my current 1340, so I will need to swap it out when the 1458 gets here. I want the SSD to be my primary OS/apps drive and the HDD to be the storage. How would I go about preparing these drives for that function. The tutorial just shows how to place them in the correct spots. Do I need to clone the SSD? Should I wipe it before cloning? Do i need to do anything to the HDD to make it the storage drive as opposed to the primary drive? Thanks
