Is there a better option. Do you think you could get a sales rep to upgrade it to something higher?

nope, the 8600gt 256mb is the highest graphic card for any 15.4 inch laptop right now! The other cards are not able to fit and nor can they withstand the heat......maybe in the future nvidia will come up with a solution

Wonder why they can't get a single 8700M GT in there.

too much heat?? To keep it cool you'll need a larger fan, which will also mean you need a larger case...

8700GT= higher clocked 8600GT. Just O/C your 8600GT, trust me you can push it quite far because its the DDR3 version. Go for 600/800 and try getting your shaders to 1200-1300. This should give you a nice a boost.
