    OK,
So I have finally given up the ghost on seeing an XPS laptop with Centrino 2 processor and illuminated keyboard, so I am reluctantly looking at the not so pretty Studio range.
Can you get a Studio 17 with a Blu ray writer? all teh ones I see are just BD players

    TIA

The original Studio1735 did ship with Optiarc Blu-ray reader. Have one in mine...plays every blu-ray movie I have thrown at it since installing WinDVD. Blu-ray titles look great via HDMI onto the flat-panel TV...

PowerDVD couldn't play IronMan, The Happening and couple other new titles...

    Surprised that the 1737 isn't offered w/blu-ray...

They do offer a Blu-ray Reader, but not the Blu-Ray writer.

    Well, thats rubbish.
Means that I cannot take HD video and convert to a BD disc on my travels, rather I have to wait until I get home to do it on the desktop.
Looks like the Sony FW is my choice then :-(
