I play games (small ones) while watching video on my XPS 1210 in bed, on my legs propped up and leaning back. Problem is that this sometimes causes a button or whatnot to press a media button on the front.

Is there a way to disable them when I don't what them to accidently fire? Thanks!

AFAIK, you can't disable them. I know it is probably more annoying than anything, but you shouldn't cause any damage to them.

Oh, not worried about damage. They just keep fast forwarding my videos in WMP :(

Maybe use a different media player to watch the movies

    For example, WINAMP
You need to enable the option in the menu for the keys to work. But when you download it, by default it is set so the keys dont work.

    Just a idea

Aren't they active because of Dell Quickset??? I'm not sure of it but maybe uninstalling it may help you on that. Please don't hold me for it as that is a big MAYBE.

You can uninstall but not disable them then turn them back on

    They work independently of QuickSet.

I don't think there is a way to even uninstall the media buttons. They don't depend on any software or driver. I think they are tied into the BIOS or chipset.

I read somewhere that the Media buttons were tied directly into the BIOS.

The front buttons can be disabled via uninstalling Quickset.

I know this because when I formatted, I went to use the front buttons while watching a movie, and they wouldn't work. I went to the dell site and downloaded anything I could find that had to do with media center and Quickset made the buttons work.

So yes, uninstalling dell Quickset SHOULD disable the front buttons. At least on a Dell 9300 that is the case. :)

Yeah, I tried that, but on the 1210, they still ran things. Thanks though!

Dell's Quickset does not control the media buttons at all. All Quickset does is enable you to push play to start Media Direct/Media Experience. As long as you are using WMP or Cyberlink/Media Direct/Media Experience, the media button keys will work. Dell has it where the media buttons are defaulted to work with these programs.

I searched on Dell this morning, and i can't find a solution. I thought there might be some way to disable the keys in WMP, but there isn't.

    Sorry.
