    Hello,

I am thinking about buying an Inspiron 1720. For 70$ CA I can upgrade to 800 Mhz FSB (vs. 667 Mhz FSB).

Tech support said the chipset is either the Intel GM965 or PM965, they were not sure which.

Can these chipsets even support the 800 Mhz FSB upgrade? Is it worth the upgrade in terms of performance, e.g., gaming?

I was going to go with 4 gb shared dual channel ddr sdram at 667 mhz.

    Thanks

It'll downclock itself to 667mhz, the 800mhz RAM.

I believe the FSB will go up to 800mhz with a T7x CPU. The T7250 is a 2.0 core 2 duo CPU and it does 800MHZ FSB. The T5250 is a 1.5 core 2 duo and it has 667MHz FSB

Processor will run at 800MHZ. Memory will only run at 667 (I have 800mhz memory in my 1720 but it runs at 667)
