Can someone explain to me how Dell Financial Plan works?

I called Dell to ask them but I couldn't understand what they were saying (no offense).

What I understood is that I pay monthly, and depending what interest rate I get, I have to pay extra along with the monthly bill?

    Is anyone else doing this?

    Any problems?

Are you talking about the Dell Preferred Account?

I think those are the same as what the USA has. There are two options...

    1. The Installment plan breaks your total price into to equal monthly payments, and you pay that amount off every month. You will have an interest rate added in. I'm not sure if it is added every month or on a yearly basis.
    2. The Dell Preferred Account is a credit card that you can only use at dell. You must pay off the minimum amount, but can make charges to your account as time goes on. You are charged interest based on your average daily amount on the account.

The interest rate will be determined by your credit.

    Does that help any?

    Yes, thank you.

I hope I get a good interest rate, I have been paying off my credit card bill on time since I got it in 2003.

I applied for the Dell prefered Account when I bought my XPS. I was a bit suprised to find out that their best interest rate even for people with very good credit was somewhere in the 17% range. I still find that to be a tad high. For people with good credit, they should have much lower rates in my opinion. At least I was eligible for the 18 months no interest plan for the XPS.

You might try calling them and asking to see if you can get a lower interest. I have a book on financial advice for college students (don't ask me why), and that is one thing that they suggest is to call your credit card companies and request a lower rate. I don't know if that works or not.

ive done just that with a few of my other credit cards. However, those cards were visa and mastercard. The dell card is not. I dont no if one could negotiate a lower APR with a "specialized" card. None the less, thanks for the suggestion.
