Yes, usually a package arrives before the estimated arrival date.
They just give you that date in case there's delays, unplanned emergencies, etc...

My Inspiron 6400 arrived after only 7 days instead of the estimated 18.

Most manufacturers usually beat their estimated ship times.

Once you receive the tracking # you're golden. It usually takes between 7-10 business days for Dell to ship from Malaysia. If you ordered from outlet it will be considerably faster.

I ordered mine from the Dell Outlet with 3-5 day shipping and I had it overnight, before the tracking number was even updated online.

Of course, I live 20 minutes from Dell's HQ in Round Rock, so I assume my computer was sitting in a warehouse not even 30 miles from my home.

I have ordered a dell inspirion 6400. The shipment date is 7 may 2007 and delivery date is between 10 may 2007 - 14 may 2007.

Now, i just want to know whether i will receive the laptop by 11 May 2007, because i will be going abroad for a month on 11 may 2007. Is there a way out by which i can spped up the dleivery date?

Mine was estimated to arrive in 2 weeks from point of ordering. I received it in 1 week. They always overestimate the delivery time. BTW i'm in Canada, maybe that makes a difference

Recently the consumer line of Dell switched over to DHL after being with UPS.

The thing to remember about DHL is that in the US they're a smaller company than UPS. I'm not usre if they ship on saturday, but I do know they run atleast internal operations 7 days a week.

Ups will NOT ship you a package on saturday unless it's been missorted and upgraded or if you SPECIFICALLY PAY FOR SATURDAY SERVICE.

I think FedEx ships on saturday, but I'm not sure.

If you'll notice on average Dell gives you shipping estimates that are several days after you'll actually recieve the product. Most likely they do it as part of their making the PC personal campaign or whatever it is you constantly see on TV. They want it to seem like they're catoring to you by getting your machine out faster than your estimated date.

Weird, was that an option for you? As far as I know UPS doesn't have that account anymore. I wonder if it was regional instead.
