About 30-60 days after I received my 1505, I got an offer from dell in the mail for a reduced price on the extended warranty. I decided to not take advantage of it, but I do remember that it was a pretty good deal - quite a bit cheaper than if I had bought it with the machine.

I've also heard that you can call dell any time before your warranty runs out and purchase an extended warranty, but I can't confirm this.

Yes you can. As robbirzell stated, you can call Dell or use their warranty website and extend your warranty. Catch is you must do this before your warranty runs out. All new systems (not sure about outlet systems) get a 1 year warranty.
