I want to purchase the Lacie external USB 2.0 hard drive, http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=10820, and it says it has no need for a power adapter if used on a USB port that can supply enough power.
Can the Inspiron 1520's USB ports (any of the 4, doesnt make a difference to me) provide enough power for this drive?

yes any computer usb can power this drive. But if your laptop is not plugged in then battery will be consumed at a fast rate when you are using this hard drive.

Wouldn't bet on a single port being able to power it. But, I think LaCie includes a two headed cable...which when plugged into two USB ports pulls power from each. That should be sufficiient. But, as post above states...it will suck lots o juice form your battery.
