I ordered the M1330 but didn't get the option to choose the fingerprint reader online. Dell explained due to parts shortage in the area, they took off the option but customers who still want it need to wait at least 6 weeks.
Anyway, is it possible for the fingerprint reader to be fitted later? Is it just a plug and play part with drivers?

I think you'd have to also get a partial case replacement so there would be a place for it, but other than that, I don't see why it would be impossible.

I don't think you can without going through a lot of trouble. By that point, it's easier to just get an external one if you really needed it. IMHO, fingerprint readers are just gimmicks with no real benefit

Yeah I bet there are some USB finger print recognition hardware available which you can get if you are really in dire need of such a gadget....

For a single user they may be of limited benefit but I think for a family PC they are very useful. I can't trust my family members to use secure passwords - they will use short ones and probably write them somewhere as well. The fingerprint reader allows fast user switching as well with a swipe. I find it convenient.
It would be even more convenient if it didn't somehow get disconnected and need the machine rebooting or the user whose process has locked it to be logged out.
