Can anyone EXPLAIN the throttling problem?

    I have a Studio 1555.

If I put my computer to sleep and wake it up, its multiplier is locked at 3x and a processor speed of 798.0 MHz. Like it will not budge from that.

When I do a fresh start, it will behave normally and alternate between 3, 6 and 9x multipliers (9x = ~2400 Mhz).

So I am so fed up with this computer. Seriously. I am going to demand that Dell replace it.

But what is CAUSING it to do this?

(Before you ask, using Windows 7... everything is updated. All drivers. All bios. Anything you could think of)

It sounds like a bug in the bios.

Usually running ThrottleStop with it enabled for a few seconds after you resume from standby is enough to set the multipliers and get your CPU working correctly again. You can also run TS 24/7 and use it to reduce your core voltage / heat if you want to do that. Highly recommended if you want your sanity back for issues like this that might take Dell 6 months or a year to fix it or maybe they will never fix it.

It does and again I have to thank your program for saving me from a serious headache until I got it fixed by Dell.

Throttling occurs because dell supplies 90w power supply for the unit. Also There's some BIOS problem also in studio .... but it would be rectified.... even i have ordered my lappi with an i7...... dont care about it <throttling> its still the best bargain....

visit chip magazines site seems they have a good solution

This type of throttling is distinct from the 90W power supply issue. The 90W supply issue is when the CPU is going full-bore and can't pull enough juice. The type of throttling here is due to a BIOS issue that doesn't release the multiplier for the Core i* processors. It basically gets stuck in powersave mode.

Yes I believe it's a bios issue. I can turn speedstep off and it will be stuck at 1600mhz (as opposed to 800 or 2400) and will stay there no matter what.
