Hi there,
I saw a report in another thread that the m1210 webcam can get hot (which would imply it's draining the battery even when not in use). Is it easy to disable it so that doesn't happen?
Thank you for your help!

Thanks for the fast response guys. I'd still want to use it from time to time, but wouldn't want to have it "on" (and draining the battery) all the time. I saw in an Asus review where disabling the integrated webcam added another 20 minutes of battery life...so I was wondering if that was possible here too

Im not clear on this, but when you arent using it, I dont think its draining power...then again, it does still get warm while its in the "off" position (no blue light on)

Try going into msconfig and finding the camera amd microphone processes under the start up tap, and turn them off. The Microphone is AndreaVC, and the camera is Camera Assistant. Turning these off would not start them up at startup, possibly disabling the camera, but still allowing you to use it. It would just take a few more milliseconds for them to start up, so no big loss for them being off. I dont know if this will reduce its heat or power usage, but it might. Take note of the camera's heat before you turn them off, and then again after they are off. Be sure to let us know if they made a difference in the heat, because that would mean its getting less/no power while not in use.
