I'm looking to upgrade my Inspiron E1505. I was hoping if anyone could tell me what CPU I could upgrade. I currently have the following:

    Processor 1 ID = 0

Number of threads 2 (max 2)
    Name Intel Core Duo T2300
    Codename Yonah
    Specification Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2300 @ 1.66GHz
Package (platform ID) Socket 479 mPGA (0x5)
    CPUID 6.E.8
    Extended CPUID 6.E
    Core Stepping C0
    Technology 65 nm
    Core Speed 1662.4 MHz
    Multiplier x FSB 10.0 x 166.2 MHz
    Rated Bus speed 665.0 MHz
    Stock frequency 1666 MHz
    Instructions sets MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, VT-x
    L1 Data cache 2 x 32 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size
    L1 Instruction cache 2 x 32 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size
L2 cache 2048 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size
    FID/VID Control yes
    FID range 6.0x - 10.0x

I'm hoping that it won't cost that much. Any help would be appreciated. THanks!

You can upgrade up to the T7600, but both the T76 and T74 are stupidly expensive for what you get. Consider the T7200 as your best value upgrade.

Yes to echo Commander Wolf, the T7200 is the best value you can get for socket M. T7200 floats at around 30-35 dollars. T7400/T7600 are faster but at insanely overpriced for what you are getting, 166/333 MHz faster does not justify 2-3x the price.

Hey thanks for the replies. Am I looking for a specific kind of T7200. I know the socket i need but is there a specific lot that will only fit my dell? I've found a few on ebay for about $35. Not too shabby for 1.66 to 2.0 and double the L2 cache. Hopefully it will keep me from having to buy a new laptop for another year or so.

You need to make sure you get a PGA T7200, but I don't think anyone is selling the BGA version anyway... so yes, basically any T7200 you can find should work.

    I am running 3g pc5300, i think, 1-1g and 1-2g. 7200rpm hd, and a t7200, Win 7 64bit, am changing out to a t7600 in a week. The t7200 and up, will allow you to install 64bit OS.
I would sell my t7200 for $35 shipped.

So the new t7600 is in my e1505 and running good. If anyone wants or needs a good t7200, $35.00 shipped. Checked the ram, and it is the pc2-5300.

All Merom CPUs are 64bit capable. It doesn't necessarily need to be T7x00.
