I just bought a small lot of what I've been told are "almost new" batteries from a guy that works at a local electronic salvage. These are the "PC764" batteries with the built-in led battery gauge. All the batteries look to be in great condition and the built-in guage reads 4 of 5 on all of them - but again they have been out of the computers for awhile.
I don't have a Dell notebook on hand that takes these batteries so I can't test the longevity, etc. that way. I notice the Dell I do have Inspiron 600M reads 5 bars at full charge. Is there any way I could test these batteries and if not what would be the most honest way to sell them? I might sell some on Ebay and those buyers can be tough and picky. Maybe I could just offer a 6 month warranty since I didn't pay more than $10 a piece for these.

If you only paid $10 for them I'd be more concerned about them exploding and getting sued. You would need to be able to read their current capacity to determine their wear. You must also consider the age of the batteries because if they are old they will have built of a bit of oxidation.
Can I test the condition of a Inspiron D630 type battery w/o computer?
