    Hi all!

I ordered a M1330 last Saturday and I am searching the web for 8400M GS pictures to see if it can be replaced by the 8600M GT I have in my sig. Would you say this is possible? Obviously just swapping the video cards and keeping the cooling solutions for each, as I know the cooling will not fit from one laptop to another (Vostro 1500 and XPS M1330).

I found some 8400M GS pictures on eBay, but they are from Vostro. The thing is it looks exactly like 8600M GT, so I'm thinking it will be possible to do the swap. Would you agree?

    Has anyone done/think about this?

no , you can't and don't be swapping any thing other than HDD and Memory or you will lose warranty.

I will swap my hardisc drive to faster and bigger one soon but I won't touch anything else until my warranty expired.

and as he said , there are the stickies that tell you everything about this kind..

Are you up to desoldering the 8400GS, assuming that the 8600GT is pin compatible?

I didn't know the 8400M GS is soldered to the mobo. Is it?

I was thinking it's the same video card as in Vostro 1400 laptops.

Later Edit: guys, your replies came so fast I didn't see the 4, 5 and 6 posts. Sorry about that. I will have a look in that stickies.

It cannot be replaced for 2 main reasons:

1] It is directly soldered to the board.

2] The heatsink is not designed to handle a 8600 GT
