If I'm going to use this program called Arconis True Image do I just clone the hard drive or how do I do it exactly?

    THanks

You can clone the hard drive with Acronis, but you would be better served to just back up any data files that you might have on the old drive and then re-install the operating system and the drivers.

Look for the clean install thread for detailed instructions-step by step. Your system will thank you for a clean install (faster) and that way you can get rid of the crap that Dell installed on your machine that you do not want or need. However, the Vostro really does not come with much crap.

I can only clone it if I have 2 hard drives plugged in right? Meaning an external or is their another way I can do it?

I only have space for 1 hard drive in this laptop so how do I go about doing this?

    Thanks

the 320gb although it is 5400 rpm it is faster since it is more compressed then the 7200 rpm 200gb

OK I will order it right now but how will I transfer all my data from my 80GB old HD in my Vostro 1500 to that new one? Using a cable?

From what I understand. You can use Aroncis os Nortron Ghost if you are able to plug them both in at the same time but if not...What are the other options

    Thanks a lot

I usually use Acronis TrueImage for the cloning. I would suggest downloading the trial version and then making the bootable CD.

There's a wide selection of 2.5" SATA enclosures available. After cloning you can use the old HDD with the enclosure as a backup. I don't wipe the old HDD but keep it bootable in case of problems with the new HDD or Windows installation.
