I want to be able to run my laptop overnight with the lid closed so i can download large files. Is there a way to set this up so it doesnt shut itself off into sleep mode?

Yes . right click on desktop
    personalized
    screen saver setting
    change power setting
on the left chose "chose what closing the led does".
also you need to make sure that the power setting is not set to put the computer to sleep regardless of the led position.
let me know if you need help with this part. I think you can figure it out.. just check all the option in the window and make them fit your plan.
    edit :eek:ops.. sorry "chesieofdarock"
I think we were writing at the same time..

IF it would overheat while the lid was closed why wouldn't it be any different if the lid is open?

If you use a cooling pad, that would help. Since 9 hours, give or take, would make the laptop hot.

I don't recommend closing the lid if the laptop is going to operate overnoc due to the heat might affect the LCD. Why not just turn off the LCD and keep the lid up?

I will be running my X1330 attached to a 1650 x 1050 display. Can I turn off the LED, close the lid and run on the external display?
