Well I looked around online, and it looks like for most countries you need a plug adaptor, but according to my dad, the plug for my e1705 can fit with sockets in china, but I'm not too sure about voltage/etc. Do I need something special to be able to recharge my laptop safely or can i just plug it in?

China is a bit strange in that the plugs you'll run across are different from building to building. Sometimes, from room to room in the same building even! Your 1705 comes with a "universal" ac adapter in that it will run on 110/220 AC, but the plug is not universal. You'll need to pick up some plug adapters for your laptop to work in China.

I have a single adapter device that'll work on all continents, the appropriate output prongs slide out...picked it up in Europe 2 years ago for about 30 euro and if you look hard enough you can find something similar.

i bought my adapter kit from radio shack for about $20. but it's not slick like carlislegeorge's, it's a little bag with several different adapters in in. it's about the size of a (computer) mouse.
