I just purchased a Dell Studio 15 (1535) and so far I really like it. The biggest complaint I have at this point is that the touch sensitive media controls above the function keys are not illuminated until you touch them. I find it very hard to see them even in a lighted room. I would like to be able to turn the lights on all the time for these controls. I contacted Dell, but of course, I had no luck there. They told me it could not be done. My guess there is probably a registry setting or some sort of tweak that could be made to turn these on. Anyone know how to do this?? I sure hope there is someone tricky out there that can figure this one out!

My friend has an HP and his touch sensitive keys stay illuminated... I guess Dell thought that would be annoying idk lol.

But as you said, I'm sure someone will figure it out eventually.

Exactly......they ought to be lit all the time....ESPECIALLY the EJECT button must be lit if a CD/DVD is in, that will give us some clue before one sticks in another DVD in, which is rather easy to do (My 8 year old did that...I made a thread on that!!)

Would it drain the battery if they were to be kept on at all times when you are in a dark room? I can't see them using much battery power.

It wouldn't have much of an effect on the battery life.

Head over to Dell IdeaStorm and promote the idea! Direct Link

Awesome. Does Dell actually consider IdeaStorms?

Thanks for the replies. I will def check out the idea storm! I am glad others agree with me. I wouldn't even mind if they turned off like the keyboard does after a few seconds of inactivity. I just figured if there was a tricky person out there that could figure out this "hack" that it would be a nice thing to have. I am plugged in most of the time so I don't mind. Heck the wifi light is on all the time... why not the others? If you also noticed, when you boot they cycle on and off in a pattern... so there is a control somewhere! Keep the posts coming if you have ideas on how to make this work!!

it would be great if it stayed dimmed and then glow brighter when pressed.

No luck yet. :( I do notice that they blink when the computer has auto-restarted due to win updates.
