I want to request some of the reinstall CD's since I plan to reformat my E1405 once I get get it. Somebody said they send it to you in the confirmation email but all I got was an order# and customer #

Besides the Resources CD and the MS Office software CD, what else should I request?(got the reinstall disj with my order)

I want to get all the stuff I'll need before the system arrives so I won't have to wait before reformatting.

You don't need a service tag to ask for those CDs. I did it before my computer arrived with just my order and customer numbers.

As well, I had asked Dell to e-mail me a copy of my invoice and they sent me a PDF file that ended up having my service tag on it at the very end.

Did I just not say that it isn't required?

At least, I had no clue what my own was when I requested the CDs and had them sent to me. Again, all I used was my order and customer numbers.

Apologies, I misread your post, I should've been more clear. What I want to know is how to get that stuff using your order and customer #'s.

Here's what you do: Call Dell and explain you'd like the reinstall disk and whatever other software you want (like PowerDVD, SonicDVD, etc). Give them your customer number and order number. If your system has shipped Dell should send you the disks. If it hasn't, they may not send them.

I think I'll wait for my system to get here first since I'll have all of the essential stuff: The OS CD, the drivers(via download onto my thumbdrive) and the MS Office CD. After I reformat I'll request the CD's for the stuff I want since I don't know yet what will be on the system that's worth keeping(I ordered as little software as possible, will I still get the Sonic and Cyberlink stuff or anything worth keeping?)

The only thing I'm still unclear about is how to replace the Sound Blaster Audigy software I ordered, I haven't been able to get an answer as to how you replace that after reformatting.

As I understand it, you can download the software (it might be under the XPS M1710 section) and Dell should be able to provide you with the key (if you paid for it and don't have it) or it will more likely be on the back of a CD that should come with the system. And if it's on a CD, that means that you don't need to download it.

In the end, though, I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah, I actually was able to find the driver for it, but I don't know whether that's the same and according to the site it's only compatible with the M1710.

    Nope, check your order online.

The part list for the E1505 (mine does anyway) shows it as Audigy blah blah blah for the M1710. It's going to be the same as it's just a software upgrade.

I can't check now because it won't let me see my order details.

That's odd. I can see mine still for my delivered order (I just don't have the computer yet cause I sent it to my sister's place).

If you ordered through EPP you can't see it from the regular Home/Small Business site. That was pretty frustrating for me until I found out the correct link.

If that's your problem, try this instead https://support.dell.com/support/order/status.aspx?c=us&cs=2232&l=en&s=eep

If not, you're just going to have to take my word for it that this

313-4218 SoundBlaster Advanced Audio for XPS M1710

is what's listed under my E1505 order or wait until you get the computer.

Just download the file now in case if you don't want to wait until you get it. Unless you're on dial-up or something, no big deal. If it's not the file, delete it later.

I did download the file, so I think everything should be fine.
