You can also negotiate a better price after.

I will probably get extended warranty after my ownership transfer from US to Canada is completed.

Yes. In the U.S., Dell usually sends an e-mail and offers a deal when your warranty is about to expire.

you can log into your dell account, and goto "my systems and perphs"

then select the system, and purchase options. these are the same prices you wouldve paid at time of purchase though.

id call, maybe you get better deal over phone. Im waiting to see if i get a flyer in the mail from dell, like every other dell order ive had. usually they offer you 3yr + CC for like 175 after rebate. thats a much better deal than paying the 170$ that it is to just get the 2yr @ time of purchase.

Can you get a 1 year warranty, then skip the following year, and get another 1 year warranty after that year?

    No, it must be continuous.

BTW, I know for a fact that you can 'upgrade' the warranty right at the very end. I choose not too though since the laptop never had problems and it was a cheap one anyway. Almost two years old and never had a problem! :D

I just received an offer for 3 years extended warranty (2011) for $229, is that a good dealand the accidental damage for $119 additional till 2011, I believe it's a good deal.

not really a good deal at all. when i bought the laptop, 2yr was an additional 179$, and 3yr was an additional 229$.

theyre sending you the basic package. call them, they may do better on phone.
