So I got my 1520 back in August, and have been having problems with it ever since. It finally got bad enough that I had a series of "conversations" with Dell, and they are sending me a replacement system.
What I am wondering is if, now that I will have a new/refurbished laptop, I can return it to Dell using their 21 day return policy. After several months of using my computer, I've decided I'd rather have a smaller size laptop, and if I can return my 1520, it would pay for most, if not all, of a 1330.

No im pretty sure you can't do that. They have in their system when you purchased the original machine, how this effects your warranty, I have no idea? Do they now extend your warranty for another year seeing as you have a new laptop, or does it still run out when it was due too for the last one?
Your best bet is to call them. Give them another call, say that the machine you received has had constant problems etc. and you'd like to exchange it for a M1330. Also let them know you're willing to pay any difference involved. Generally Dell are fairly understanding, if they can see you've had grief with your system, they might let you do this. Worth a shot, give them a call. -
No, you dont get a new 21 day return policy. You are stuck with only an exchange.

Your current warranty will be transferred to the new system BTW. Also, the new/refurb replacement will be just that. Dell has no obligation to accept a return for credit. Sometimes however if you can convince the right people in UM, you may be able to get credit.

Thanks for the responses. I figured the 21 day policy wouldn't carry over, but it was worth a shot. I'll give them a call tomorrow, see what happens.
Thanks again!
Can I exchange, then return?
