I noticed the Recovery Partition (D) 5.77GB of 9.99GB free.
Can I delete this as I have the Recovery CD too.
When I had my HP dv6000 it had a recovery partition too and I was able to safely delete that one.

yes of course......the recovery partition is full of useless crap......however if u r that much particular just burn them to a dvd before deleting the partition.......u can save a lot of disk space by this method....i deleted my recovery partitioned and repartitioned and reinstalled vista within hours of getting my machine......

same here.... search for flamemkno's sticky and follow that ...it will feel like going from a 74 granada to a ferrari baby!!!!!cheers!!!

If you are not planning a full wipe and reinstallation of your OS you can delete the D partition then use GPartEd (or something similiar) to move / resize your C partition.
Of course you should do a full backup first. -

Delete the recovery partition if you have backup discs. It is useless and takes up space, basically it is an image of how your hard drive came from the factory. If you have recovery discs or an OS disc, wipe this to gain some space back.

just format it and use the space, or you can merge it to your other drive.
since the topic came i have very strange issue,,
I have 160 gig drive, using Hiren CD> acronis disk director i merged all partition and created 3 NTFS drives and install vista on one of them and they work fine..
Theproblem is that when i press dell MD button i still boot to the media direct but it eventuallt give me BSoD..
WTH? where is it booting from..i totally reconfigure my HDD including 2.5 gig utility partition and the 10 gig back up...its very annoying b/c if i accidentally press it its disaster. anybody know how to remove or disable it? -

go to Disk management and right click on the 10 gig partition and delete it. then right click on any other partition and chose extend partition and then follow up...you'll find out..

ProfessorShred Notebook Evangelist
Download this
http://www.killdisk.com
load files onto a usb flash drive
Boot from the usb and let the program wipe the hard drive
you will now have 1 partition
reinstall the OS and drivers and enjoy the new found speed/responsiveness.
If you do this you will lose Dell media direct,I didn't mind because I didn't like it anyway, but if you do then follow the advise on Flamenko's thread. -

right click on "computer" icon on desktop, select "manage" and then you see disk management donw on the list...
-
Alternatively you could go into the "Run" window and type "diskmgmt.msc"
-
So how do I put that 10GB back in there? -
i see, that is the problem with windows, you should use a 3rd party application like acronis disk director or gparted,,,,,,,
however i recomend that you create 2 partition, 1 for windows and 1 for data and backup b/c you never know how windows would behave... -
It might be that Vista is only able to extend volumes into empty space when the empty space is adjacent to the volume you are trying to extend. If the media direct partition is between the c drive and the empty space, that might be the problem.
But I am just guessing here.
Can I delete the Recovery Partition in M1530?
