Hi guys, I ordered my XPS 16 this afternoon but decided to change some of the specs now. The current order status is "In Production". Could I cancel it by tomorrow morning ? As now is 11.50 pm. Really worried !
-
-
Call Dell, but I think you'd have to wait and get it then exchange it.
-
But I just ordered it this afternoon. Couldn't I get it cancel straight away ?
-
Call them up, and advise you would like to change your order, when a Rep is available to physically speak with. They will either let you cancel your order, and reorder..or tell you the order is in production, and cannot be changed.
Since you just placed your order, I would hope for the first resolution.
Good luck!

they only way they can cancel it is if you call it in.
OR you can try calling your bank and putting a freeze on your payment if you really want to cancel it now.
But you waiting it out is your best bet. When it comes in, dont open it because then they cant charge you the restocking fee. -
I see you made a thread in the Dell main forum, also..please don't *cross post*!
I just answered there, and saw your thread, here!
Cin... -
Hey im so sorry, I dint know the correct section to post. Thanks for moving it. I should be calling them soon !
-
Cin... -
Argh, gave them a call. A no go. So what I'm gonna do now is dispute the transaction through my debit card company and reorder a new one ?
-
I would call them up, explain the situation and request a return authorization. Usually, since you are reordering they will waive the restock fee. If they do not offer to, well you can always find something wrong with the system you received if you look hard enough.
Doing a chargeback causes the merchant a lot of paperwork etc, I know I am one. And in your case it's not their fault. They should work with you on it. -
-
Advice from ViperGTS is good in this case, but technically Dell don't need to cancel without a re-stocking fee. Distance selling legislation that details cancellations does not apply in the case of personalised products, which, as your product is made to order, is the case, as it is for the vast majority of Dell computers.
-
Thanks for the advices. I'm finding the way that Dell's order works extremely redundant and inefficient. Why can't I just cancel a order I place no longer than 24 hours. I'm very sure it's not even assembled. They insist on sending to me and I have to return back to them and the shipping charges will be on their side. Isn't that sheer dumbness ? Why should either party bear the shipping cost ? It's not even necessary in the first place if they could just override their system and cancel it.
Anyways, I contacted them and they acknowledged that they will not charge the restocking fee.
Well, the main reason I wanted to cancel the order is that I somehow didn't get the additional 7% student discount that I'm supposed to get (after all the redirects and befuddled links) and also a missed out add-on.
Once again thanks everyone for your time. -
As a matter of fact I ordered a laptop yesterday morning, and by 11pm I wanted to add $250 coupon. So the rep worked with another rep to see if I got a better deal with or without the coupon being that I had a student discount already.
Anyway they were not able to but they gave me a %15 discount off of my laptop. But it will be deducted once my Laptop ships. So I'm getting back $200
So I'm sure that if you call them and tell them you are trying to apply a coupon/student discount, they will try to work with you. -
So is your 15% > the $250 coupon ? Anyhow, I have already ordered the second unit carefully this time and I have confirmed with them it's with the 25% sale + additional 7% student discount.
Still I wish to cancel the first order though they say it can't be done unless to return it back to them to get a full refund (redundant). But I saw some of the posts here saying that they will call us to confirm the shipping and you can cancel it by then. Is it true ? -
no the %15 is not the $250 coupon.
She said that either I can use it(coupon)and cancel my order. but my laptop case. mouse & keyboard already shipped out. then I can reorder the laptop.
But she wanted me to avoid that, so she offered me another option with the %15. So I took it.
*edit*
So I checked out the difference, so it actually worked out to be $250 off as well. So she just wanted to avoid me canceling. -
That's kinda weird. You could cancel the order just that she doesn't recommend it but instead give u the discount. For my case, they say I couldn't cancel at all even though I just ordered it for less than 24 hours.
-
Technically you don't have the right to cancel without a charge being applied due to the fact that the machine is custom built for you. However, Dell can and do sometimes override this if you call them.
-
Hmm the problem is, it's not even built yet. I think most probably the parts aren't even being ordered yet.
-
The parts are probably ordered; I expect they are ordered as soon as the payment information is confirmed - they are just not delivered until the machine is ready to go into production.
-
also disputing transaction is not at all the right direction, since that would be fraud from your side. So as such, the best thing is to wait for it to come and then return it. Meanwhile in parallel you can order the one you want.
Also i think there is a phone number where you can call and change your order. Most likely you want to change a component isnt it. Look in the forum, they are the sales people i guess not customer service. Most likely accessible via the order status phone number. -

-
Again which is fine if you're not close to breaching your credit limit.
Cancellation at the point money is taken is of course possible, it's after this stage that you technically have no right to cancel without having charges applied; though as I said, Dell can and does override this sometimes. -
I used my debit card to purchase it. Anyways, I already did ordered it again. Guess I'll just have to return the first unit I purchased. :S
-
Just a little follow up from my case...
Today I received the shippings of my first order. So I called them to ask for a return authorization code. Initially they tried to persuade me to keep both laptop by offering me $20 (Ridiculous ?). I insisted on returning it and then everything went well. No restocking fee, no shipping fee, full refund in 30 days.
So I got the prepaid UPS return label via email immediately. Pasted them and drop em off at a nearby UPS store.
So what I have to do now is just wait ? Or do I have to give them a call telling them I gave it to UPS. Apparently I did not get any receipt after dropping off at the UPS store. Is everything on track ? -
If it was anything like when I returned something later in the day when UPS actually receives it in an e-mail from Dell was dispatched, so they knew when I dropped it off.
-
(I just returned a 8GB Zune to Dell last Friday at a UPS store..received this e-mail acknowledgment the next morning. On Monday, 9/14/09, I received a call from my Rep stating it had already been credited to my Dell Account!
Hope this helps!

Alright, guess what I'm going to do now is just pray everything's fine.
-
Yay, everything looks fine. I received an email from Dell saying my package has been received and the refund is in process.
Argh, I missed my delivery today. How unlucky =( have to wait another painstakingly long day. -
Well..hopefully tomorrow will be the day for your delivery! Can you be home to receive it? So, you don't miss it again? Or, have someone there?
You know, you can pick it up at the Depot, in the evening, don't you?

Thanks Cin ! Hmm I had classes this morning untill 12 pm. The first order came around 12.30pm yesterday, so I thought I might be able to catch this one the same time today. Who knows it came an hour earlier 11.27am.
After that I called Fedex and asked if I could pick it up myself but they say it wouldn't be back until night. Hopefully tomorrow it gets here before 1 pm since my class starts at that time. -
Horray, I'm replying this with my new XPS I'm loving it Thanks everyone for helping me out !
