I bought a Vostro 1500 a couple of hours ago.

Then I realized I could get the 1700--bigger screen, full number keypad--for only $40 more, though with 2GB RAM instead of 3GB (which is probably overkill for me anyway).

I'm thinking maybe I could cancel the order and buy the 1700. Anyone have experience with this? The order status says "in production."

    Thanks!

PS: Yeah, I know the 1700 weighs the same as a Mini Cooper. But I'll rarely (if ever) take it out of the house, and that number keypad would be great for doing bills. Plus a member of my household has bad vision, and so the 17-inch monitor might be better for reading text.

Why would you come here first though, rather than contacting Dell before it's too late to cancel???!!

Same thing I thought to myself as well, and it's a valid point for a number of questions I see asked here. If people would just call Dell first, they could probably get their issues resolved a lot faster than waiting for an answer here.

I figured I'd get a faster answer here. Members of this forum are super fast--unlike getting through to a real human being at Dell (at least when I last tried several years ago).

I also wanted to see if anyone thought I should stick with the 1500.

My wife says the 1700 sounds too massive, in case we wanna take it on a plane. Given that and the hassle of canceling/reordering, I'll probably just stick with the 1500.

Dell has made some improvements to their call routing over the last few years. It's not that hard to speak to someone in person.

IMO, anything larger than a 12"-13" laptop is too large for a plane.

I travelled all over the world with my E1705 and 1) I'm a female and 2)It's heavier than the Vostro.

I'm not saying the experience was super-pleasant, but it's definitely not like carrying a desktop around. The notebook was definitely not made for constant travelling, but if you're only gonna be lugging it with you occasionally, I'd go with the 1700.
