I bought my E1505 back in April and it's past the 21 day return period. I have little or no levage to have to ship me a new laptop. I'm very sensitive about sending my notebook away for repair, Im afraid that they wont take good care of it. :D Instead of sending it away, can I request that they send me a LG LCD screen and I will replace it myself? I have a samsung and the light leakage is extends about an inch from the bottom of the scren. it's terrible when watching widescreen movies. Thanks for the help.

I doubt it, I'm sure they have to assess the damage themselves. Or else, anyone could just ask for anything so they can "repair it themselves." (not doubting you, but Dell, like any business, cannot just take their customer's word for things)

i'm not sure if a new LCD will fix a light leakage problem (i could be wrong) since light leakage comes from the backlight bleeding through the LCD, not necessarily a defect with the LCD itself. it has more to do with how the lcd, the backlight, the housing, and all the little parts in between interact.

if you're already willing to take your computer apart (as you mentioned in your first post), then maybe you could take it apart, look for ways to get rid of/decrease your light leakage and then put it back together

EDIT: sorry, forgot to mention that there's no harm in trying to get dell to send you one to replace it yourself... other users on this forum have done just that.

I would probably want to send the notebook in to Dell rather than fiddle with the screen myself, unless you're experienced with notebooks and know what you're doing.

Yeah dude, replacing screens can be quite hairy - it took quite some serious effort for the dell repairman to replace mine. It was quite an accomplishment that he did not scratch up the laptop considering how much force he had to exert. Poor guy was sweating like crazy :)

You probably can't get a new LCD, but you might be able to get a new display all together. I'm pretty sure this would fall under your warranty but not 100% sure.

As for sending it in, you can try. I've called dell numerous times and have had things sent to me (like new bezel) but it takes a bit of arguing to do.

If you end up having to send it in, see if you can just send in the display part. All you would need to do is remove the screws that connect the hinges to the base (under the keyboard cover).

There is also the possibility that the replacement LCD could have worse light leakage than your current one.

I would do some research and see if one LCD is better than another for the E1505. In the past I know Samsungs screens have not been the best. I think LG and Quanta if I recall correctly make some good screens.
