Dell is a Blu-ray supporter so you're extremely unlikely to find HD-DVD drives that fit Dell machines IMO.

Hmm Blu-ray will become more popular than HD-DVD IMO...

But back to the topic I think you can since both must be of the same dimension when fitting into the chasis...

The 1520 uses a normal slim format...so theoretically you could just put any slim drive in it...the fun part would be to find a drive which would seamlessly integrate into the chassis.

Dell uses generic drives.. just change the front bezel if needed. Some have full box bezels, the 1520 has a cut one for the card reader, but the drive is exactly the same..

Shop around you'll find them, I've found many laptop parts around, they're more and more common with barebone laptop systems becoming very popular.

Still..HD-DVD and blu-ray.. same sh!t different pile. Pretty much useless on a laptop or computer period. Unless you like backing up data to those disks, or got a HD tv hooked up as you're media center type configuration.

My Qosmio has a HDMI slot, I wonder if I could share the HD-DVD and have it working.........mmmm PLus i could still watch HD on the 1520 at least and its cheaper then buying a blue ray that may go the way of betmax.

And I recently got a LG Flatron wide 20" 3000:1 2ms monitor, spiderman 3 quicktime trailer looks nice on it.
