I was planning on upgrading to 4 GB and staying with 32-bit Vista on my new 1530. I wondered if anything can utilize the extra .5 GB that Vista 32 is unable to address or is it just going to sit there unused/unseen and lonely...
    Thanks,
    Derek

The OS will only recognize 3.3GBs of ram. Then from that, the GPU uses whatever amount you want. If ram is not being recognized by the OS, the GPU can't possibly use it.

So no, you can't put the "wasted" ram to good use by giving it to the GPU because it's technically not there, the computer does not know how to use it.

You can always install vista 64 bit to see all the 4gigs of ram.

Yes, I knew that, but I did know about compatibility issues with all of the different 32 bit apps that I need to run (and the games... ).
    Thanks,
    Derek
