I guess this would be valid for all dell models but I constantly get this error:
Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
NMI: Parity Check/Memory Parity Error
****system has halted****
Every time I call dell all they tell me to do is take out the memory and reseat it. Is this a problem that you guys experience and are just living with or is there a permanent fix to this issue. Thanks
-
If you've called several times for this problem, demand new memory.
-
I too would like to know, it happens to me also.
it seems to happen to me when i am converting video files for a long period of time w/o restarting my comp. -
From Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315223
Can be caused by faulty drivers or faulty hardware. -
I've seen this error 3 times since June.
Doesn't bug me enough to deal with it for now... -
I have seen this error more times that I would like. I had always thought that is was just something I was doing wrong to cause this. If it is the memory that causes this then I will buy a better brand. Right now I have to stock memory installed. Any suggestions on some decent RAM for gaming?
-
corsair or crucial memory. (Do a search)
-
Be certain to have the 667mhZ frequency, apposed to 5xx. And dual channel them by purchasing either 2 sticks of identical 512mb or 2 sticks of identical 1GB memory (recommended for gaming) Or 2 sticks of identical 2GB memory (quite costly and your machine must be able to support it).
-
"An NMI is typically used to signal attention for non-recoverable hardware errors."
I would pull and switch your ram sticks positions using your standard ram handling precautions. Then, if problem continues, run one stick at a time. A PITA but if your on a budget you might save one stick of ram.
677 vs 533 or running single stick of ram vs two sticks? Not a problem on our Dells, you won't feel any difference as long as you stay around 1 Gig of memory. 2 gigs are sweet depending on how you use the machine. -
I'm having same error message once in a while, but with Lenovo R60. I got new memory stick from IBM, but error didn't go away.
Do you have Ati x1400 chip? -
These are my system specs: 1gb ram 667, 2.0c2d, 7900gs, 100gb hard drive 7200rpm, and im not sure what else is important. I have called dell and we have switched the memory around and run diagnostics and such.
-
OK, then you may have one bad ram stick. As kegobeer said, I would ask Dell to send you two new ones to swap out. This is cheaper than Dell shipping notebook around..unless you have other issues Dell needs to address. You ran diagnostics but that may not catch everything, it did not on mine which called for a motherboard swap..
This has been going on from day 1? Dell will probably ask you to re-image the drive as well. -
I have those messages since April when i first got my system. I 've had 3 replacements all of them have the same problem. THis mostly due to video drivers than memory. Why does Dell ignore this issue. THis BSOD is really dangerous if you're doing important work and the BSOD just suddenly pops up.
-
Like knlmwq, I have the 7900GS not a ATI 1400. Have you tried the Omega drivers for ATI? -
I don't think swapping out ram will help resolve this issue. It seems to be happening with many people.
However, I _think_ the error _might_ actually be talking about the _video memory_ as opposed to RAM, but that's just a thought. -
Very possible. Are you saying that this is wide spread with 7900 owners as well? Curious, how about you as a 7900 user?
-
-
i have got this error twice, in about 4 weeks. both times it happened when laptop was kept on overnight and when i woke up it was the BSOD.
using all dell updated drivers.
someone had suggested trying different video drivers, frm laptops2go or some place like that.
any other solutions?
no overclocking on my system either. -
What programs were running? Do you use hibernate? I'm running all stock drivers but with OC with a de-junked not reformated OS. I want to see if I can duplicate your BSOD.
-
(Lenovo R60, 1gb ram, T2400 with x1400)
I can reproduce blue screen pretty easily by using dxdiag -> Test DirectDraw and doing it couple times. Tried yesterday with battery power and no blue screen, even when i tweaked performance up. I'll try today without powerplay. -
This BSOD is wide spread with every single X1400 and 7900gs laptop of Dell. Some previous thread there're some E1505s have the similar problem. SOme users out there haven't met this problem yet may be they use their lapy for a short period of time during the day. If u use ur laptop as main computer, u'll experience this. I often left my laptop 24/7 and this bsod randomly crashes. Sometimes i just turn on computer 10min it crashes and restart (with out memory parity error) too.
-
i ran memtest for about 4.5hrs and nothing happened.
both times i got BSOD when i left pc on overnight running just azureus and yahoo messenger.
oh i have done a clean install of windows, but first BSOD was before reformat and 2nd BSOD was after the reformat. -
-
Call Dell and ask for another system. If they're not, tell them we have a number of users who has the same problem. If the drivers and software are updated properly, the last reason to cause BSOD is hardware.
I've the same problem but haven't found any answer yet. I'm running Ik8fangui to keep my system below 50degree C and see if the heat causes problem. -
-
yes could be the 7900gs gpu hardware/software conflict. is there any way i can disable the graphics card, then leave laptop on overnight to see if i get BSOD??
help/suggestions appreciated. -
Same here, I rip dvd's, play games with OC, photoshop and run audio editing software. No problems or BSOD other than my first DOA motherboard.. and 2-7900 GPU cards. I would have to agree with kegobeer.
I do use standby after 5 hours but will leave on 24hrs to see if I can get it BSOD with I8kfan off. Note I do not have stock memory sticks for what it's worth..
The dell's do seem to have a firewire issue with certain hardware and the dell sigmatell drivers are really wimpy. -
update, just got a BSOD right after reinstall WMC with all drivers and software installed. This gotta be the hardware.
-
A real PITA but all I can suggest is that you re-image with the Dell restore disks if you have them. Do not add any third party software or hardware until you have stable stock configuration. This does not mean you have to run all the junk Dell installs, just let windows run by it’s self for 24 hours. This is what Dell's going to want you to do in the long run, right? Then it’s step by step for each software/hardware device added or deleted.
A BSOD does not mean you have a hardware only problem; I used to get them regular if I got a bad Omega install on my Arima/Gateway. The original poster was having a NMI which is getting blurred with all the BSOD messages or both. -
I briefly had an e1705 that I returned to Dell, but in the month that I had it, I saw the "NMI: Parity Check/Memory Parity Error" four times. I hadn't added any RAM or anything else to the system.
-
For you gals/guys having NMI errors check out this dell link for what it's worth; http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=pw_other&message.id=5406
As other posters have repeated it's looking like a video driver problem in some cases. The question is why some and not others? -
Why some and not others?
-
I've had my e1705 since July and this has never occurred.
-
THis is sSOOO pissed off. I had another BSOD yesterday. Should I ask for another Dell replacement?
-
no point replacing them x number of times. problem is pretty certain to be the gpu. try drivers frm laptopvideo2go, if that doesnt solve problem try tweaksrus drivers. keep on tryin different drivers is wat i would suggest. wat a pain gettin a new laptop and reinstallin all ur programs etc etc... drivers are easier to remove and install
-
i tried OMega drivers , the same thing happend. I only have ATI X1400 so Laptop video 2go does not work for me.
UPDATE ( i know it's annoying) i had another BSOD 5 mins ago . Then i look on this thread again for updates. -
I have E1705 and 7900gs I had that problem after 2 month that my unit have been working good and hve the same problem I send to dell I they told me to hold the hard drive, when got it back was exited that it was fixed turn it on got same error message not too happy, after talking with dell trying to fix problem did a hardware diagnose and pass everything, so finally I told dell that I was able to log in safe mode only and they told me that I had to reinstall a clean XP and so far it has been four days and so far so good will see later if get the message?
-
The BSOD will crash again even if u reinstall ur windows. Dell suggest u do the stuff that i already did for many times. Nothing has been solved. I gotta ask them exchange me an XPS instead ? . Inspiron line has a lot of defective BSOD out there.
-
well if they exchange n give me an xps for no extra charge, i will be happy too. but i dont think thats gonna happen. seems like there is no fix for this. all i can hope is i dont get the BSOD while working on somethin important (or while whooping someone's @$$ gaming online )
-
i get the same error, these errors are random and are not necesary related to the hardware, i think the problem comes from porgrams like emule, deamon tools and others, i will try changing video drivers, unisntalling deamon tools and use another mounting software and see if i stop getting the error.
-
That's not gonna happend though. . If I'm doing Dj for school and get the blue screen while i'm doing that, that's gonna be sucks. Or using my credit card to pay sth.
-
@yolda, you think other programs might be causing it?
well i do use deamon tools once in a while, but im certain when i got BSOD errors daemon tools was not running (both times azureus was running as i had left it on overnight)
update: its been 3 days, laptop on 24hrs so far no BSOD (touchwood)
Calling all e1705 owners..error message
