Is the infamous CPU whine I keep reading about really voltage regulator buzz? Either I'm lucky and got a good one, or there's no such thing as the evil 'CPU whine'.

First off, I have an LED display. I've noticed a very slight, high pitched ring, but only on occasion. It's a sound that you might mistake for a spinning drive, only I have an SSD. Then I noticed that it goes away when the display turns off. I did a little test, and at full brightness the laptop is completely silent. As I turn the brightness down, the slight ring emerges and becomes gradually louder.

So I began wondering, is this sound perhaps what people are referring to when they talk about 'the horrible CPU whine'?
