I recently replaced the Core Duo 1.6 in my Inspiron E1505 with a Core 2 Duo 2.0. When I did this, I scraped away most of the thermal pad that was between the CPU & the heatsink. I cleaned all surfaces with alcohol and then used some old Arctic Alumina paste on the CPU.

Since then, the fan has come on louder and more often. I just downloaded SpeedFan, and my temps are a little high. I'm at 49C idle and 65C load.

Perhaps the old thermal pad filled a gap between the processor & heatsink that paste can't. Maybe I need a thermal pad. If so, where should I buy one? Please advise.
