Would it be possible for me to upgrade my T7100 to a T8300 and sell my T7100 to someone with a T5450 who wanted to upgrade or something along those lines?

I upgraded my service contract yesterday (now 5yr In-Home Service w/ Nights & Weekends with CompleteCare :D) and now that this laptop is going to be around for a while I figure I might as well put a little more horsepower under the hood.

Upgrading your CPU is going to void that warranty, so I highly recommend you don't ;)

Really? The Dell Technician I chatted with gave me the impression I could upgrade anything I wanted in the system, but in the event the part broke or the system needed to be sent to the depot I would have to remove it.

    Edit:
I don't think any of those say your warranty is void if you upgrade system components, just that if you break your laptop they don't cover it.
I suppose I would have to keep the old T7100 around in the event I needed a laptop replacement, though...

Well, from my experience the only parts any company will let you change is the RAM and HDD. I guess it's hard for them to tell, but if you damage something while changing the CPU they won't be covering it.

It says "Damage caused by: Servicing not authorized by Dell". So, upgrading your laptop does not void your warranty, but if any damage is caused by your actions will not be covered. I confirmed this with a chat session:
