I am thinking of buying the Vostro 1400 with the cheapest CPU then buying a new one to put in it. I had 2 questions. Will this void my warranty for the laptop. And what socket does Vostro 1400 use. I am confused between 3 Sockets. Socket M, Socket P and Socket 479. According to Wikipedia they are all different and the CPU I found that I want is this "BX80537T7500" which according to the site is a Socket 479 with 478 pins.

1.) Yes, it will void your warranty.
2.) Yes, you can replace the CPU with a faster Core 2 chip.
3.) It's probably not worth it, and depending on your situation, a lower-grade CPU will probably do more than you need it to, faster.

I don't understand why it would void warranty unless he breaks something in process of doing it.

There isn't any thing Dell can prove if he puts the old CPU back on warranty needed situations.

I was even told by Dell that if I purchase any upgrade parts from spare parts (such as CPU/LCD/GPU), it will also carry system's warranty.

I've seen people who been applying AS5 to their CPU/GPU and were still covered by warranty. (you actually have to take parts off to apply AS5)

Ya Its $250 to get a T7500 and do it myself or $180 to get a T7100 and have Dell do it and have it covered under Dell's warranty instead of Intel's. While im asking about warranty voiding. I want to upgrade my WLAN card, will doing that void my warranty?

    No it won't.

I haven't seen any void sticker/markers that has to be taken off in my M90, or M1330.

As long as you don't break anything which Dell can tell it was tempered with, you will be fine.

Why do you need faster CPU if you don't mind me asking?

Just letting you know if you are looking for improvement in gaming, it won't effect it much at all.

I do alot of Virtual Machine work and Programming.

After doing the math and everything its basically $75 to go from a T7100 to a T7500 but I will have to use the Intel warranty instead of the Dell warranty for the CPU and will have to install it myself. Also I could do a T7700 for another $82.

Don't sell the 7100 in case you have to send your system back. Field techs you don't have to worry though.

Well I have not bought it yet, I'm saying if I get the Vostro 1400 with the normal Celeron M540 then turning it into a T7100 will be a $180 Upgrade or I could just leave it as a Celeron M540 and get a T7500 from NCIX for $255 and install it myself. I am just worried about getting the right Socket and keeping my CompleteCare warranty.

Help guys. I'm getting a new Vostro 1500 + 4GB ram G-skill. I wonder if the core 2 duo T5270 (1.4GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache) is suitable with 4GB? I mean thaz balance between CPU and RAM? or should I get a higher CPU (like T7250 or uppers)?

I've confirmed with Dell that it's okay to apply thermal grease such as AS5 by the way.

I don't think you are supposed to do it to GPU though. I saw inside, and GPU only have thermal pad instead of compond like on CPU.
