Just picked up a new 2.0 core duo. I want to replace the 1.66 on my E1705, anyone have any suggestions on how I might do this without killing myself or the lapper?

I didn't think you could replace Notebook processors. I thought theyb were embedded into the mother board??

Keep in mind you'll void any warranty you have.

Where is the link that says this will void the warranty? I upgraded my CPU a month ago to the 2.26 processor.

You can only upgrade to another PIII since they have different sockets.

Question Dell about it. I understand it as when upgrading cpus, warranty will be voided because the average user doesn't upgrade the cpu. You could have a dell tech come out and do the upgrade, but you will lose warranty on only the cpu not the rest of the machine.

ah okay, is there any chance I could get a new CPU socket, or is the socket integarted into the mother board. If so, is it worth me getting an CPU upgrade or am I better off getting a new lappy??

Found the E1705 breakdown and rebuild. Yes, you can upgrade the CPU on this box and, more than likely, it will support the merom cpu.
