    Hi all,

I have an Inspiron 8600 with a NEC DVD+RW ND-6100A drive (this is what it says in the Device Manager). I use the Dell loaded Sonic to burn CDs. My problem is not with drive recognition, burning or anything like that. Once the audio CD is burned, sometimes song tracks will have a scratching noise (like static) in the background of the song while the song is playing. Sometimes it is very faint, sometimes totally unbearable, and can be on different tracks for different copies. I find this totally bizarre.. considering there is never any problem actually burning the cd. It's not my player because I have burned a CD for a friend and she said a few of the tracks were unbearable to listen to because of the static noise.

I talked to Dell helpline chat thing and they basically told me that the drive was working properly based on the symptoms and told me to run diag on it, which I did and everything came out fine. So if the drive works fine and my cd player works fine, it's either

    A. the program (Sonic)
    B. the CD-R

Currently using Memorex 52x CD-Rs (which I just got like a week ago), and this error has occured with other types of CDRs as well. This leads me to believe it's Sonic... my old computer I had Nero and never once did I have this problem, and that was a Dell machine as well. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I would try burning them with XP's service, and see if that changes anything. If these songs are on your harddrive, do you notice the sound if you play them from the the HDD?
