I had an old i8000 with Adaptec DirectCD writing software which seemed to work well enough as far as cross compatibility with other computers went, most of which seemed to have one or other version of similar software. With my new i9100 (Win XP Pro) which came with Sonic RecordNow! CD writing software I am having major compatibility problems with older computers (eg a desktop at work running Win98 and Adaptec EasyCD creator 5). I've tried installing Adaptect EasyCD creator 5 on the 9100 but it only partially solves some problmes and I get an icon showing in the bottom taskbar that the i9100's CD dive is "unsupported" anyway. Trying to get the various CD drives to reliably talk to each other is driving me nuts. Can anyone recommend a solution to this? The Sonic RecordNow software doesn't even give me the option to format CD's in a "readable in any drive" format that the old Adaptec software did.
