    Hello,

I've just bought a Vostro 1000 and have put a clean install of XP Pro (SP2) on and have installed the appropriate drivers and firmware updates from the Dell site.

I've noticed that whenever the laptop starts/reboots or the CD/DVD is closed (if there's a disk in there or not) I always get 2 (shhht, shhht) sounds like its trying to read something (as if it's set to boot from CD.

I've checked in the BIOS and the HDD is the 1st boot device (and I've even disabled the CD/DVD to see if it would make a difference - which it didn't!).

TBH I can't even remember if it did this straight out of the box of whether this is a side-effect of something that's been installed.

    Grateful for any advice.

    Thanks
