I'm new here so please bear with me. My problem is my DVD drive won't burn DVD disk anymore. It will read both CD/DVD and write only to CD. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, i purchased nine months back from Dell. I have never had a problem burning DVD disk before. It is a necessary tool in my field. I have not installed any new software, or made any hardware changes. One day last week my DVD drive froze so I stuck a pin in the little hole on drive door to open (OK maybe not the smartest thing). Every since, it will no longer burn to DVD. Please help. And thanks in advance.

The drive probably went kaput. Call Dell, at 9 months you should still be under warranty.

Don't worry about poking the pin in the hole, that's what the hole is there for.

I'm not even sure what the mechanism is to write to cd or dvd, but it seems that from your description, the laser in the drive is somehow messed up, that only the manufacturer can help with servicing it. So calling Dell is probably your best option.
