Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
You should be able to find that information in your Device Manager. If not, you can try using something like PCWizard to identify the drive. In the worst case scenario, you can physically take out the drive and take a look at the markings printed on it.

dell uses many different manufacturers.....the first 1520 i bought had fuji drive, and the one i just bought has a toshiba...agree, you should be able to see the manufacturer in device manager...or just take it out and see .

Thanks guys. I'll do that tonight when I get home.
This is a first step before I buy a new DVD drive out right, my current one doesn't seem to play some data DVD's with media files, and last night I tried to load a CD and it wouldn't run at all???
Seems to play DVD movies and games fine though. -
Just to clarify - the updates are "firmware" not drivers - like a BIOS for the drive. Drivers are provided by the OS.

"HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-T11N ATA Device" is what Device Manager said under DVD/CD-ROM drives.
That doesn't leave me any clearer as to which DVD drive I have?! Any ideas? -
i believe your drive is made by hitachi/lg....i believe they are making drives jointly today...
