I have a problem with my burner. After reformatting (following SG guide), burning anything slows down the computer and takes 4X longer than it used to. Anyone know a solution to this problem?

My specs are in my sig, any help is much appreciated. :\

If the burner is slowing down the computer then the ODD interface is probably in PIO mode, which is CPU intensive. Go to Device Manager and check the IDE ATA/ATAPI primary and secondary channel (properties > advanced settings). The ODD is usually, but not always on the secondary channel. The Transfer Mode should say "DMA if available" and the Current Transfer Mode should be "Ultra DMA ... ". If it is PIO then read Microsoft's advice. You may be able to find a utility which does the registry patch. In my own experience, uninstalling the second IDE channel then redecting the hardware got the interface back into DMA mode.

Thanks for the reply John. Yes, the secondary channel is in PIO mode... how do I uninstall like you said?

In Device Manager, right click on the secondary IDE channel and select Uninstall.
