I currently have an Inspiron 1720 with WUXGA (1920x1200) display. I'm looking at the Studio 17, which comes with either WXGA+ (1440x900) CCFL or WLED, or WUXGA+ (1920x1200) CCFL. I really like the WUXGA resolution, but I've heard people are impressed by the LED screens. Am I right in thinking a drop in resolution would be a bad idea?

If you are already used to WUXGA, I can't see you being impressed by the lower resolution screen at all. LED back lit screens does not have better image quality, its just a different back lit technology, they are brighter and uses less power, and does not dim over time.

Yeah, there are advantages in LED technology, but a 17-inch screen with WXGA+ will have very large icons and little room to fit windows side-by-side.

the LED screen is thinner, lighter and brighter. I doubt being thin and light will matter for a 17 inch notebook, the brighter part might be good for outdoor use. I say go with high resolutions screen.

I would not get a 17" display that was not at least WXSGA (1680x1050). WUXGA (1920x1200) is ideal, and I would rather have that than a WXGA+ LED.
