How does your 8600M GT perform with C&C3?
What settings, and drivers do you use?
I have no AA, all highest except shadows, 1280x800, and i'm not 100% happy.
I'm running it on a dell vostro 1500 XP, with 512mb 8600M GT (with ddr2 i think), and the framerates drop severly after a while, usually when maps are bigger, and base increases in size and more units, but it's not like there is loads going on!
How can i increase performance?

Are you using stock drivers? Have you tried using LaptopVideo2Go forum drivers?
-
Are you using the drivers provided by Dell?
I had performance and graphic glitch issues on games with those drivers on my Vostro 1500 with NV8600 GT too. Although they are sanctioned by Dell they may still give problems on some games.
I installed the ones on http://www.laptopvideo2go.com and all my problems were solved. Give them a try and let us know how they work, be sure to download the correct driver set for your Operating System and follow the installation instructions.
It's nothing complicated, you only need to replace an .inf file which they provide before running the installer. -
I installed the latest 174.93 driver, graphics seemed to of improved but for example: on the first mission it starts in 30fps, then when the map extends it drops to around 25fps and lower. It's not exactly choppy visuals, but mouse movement isn't smooth and the game seems to slow down a touch. Maybe i'm being too picky lol.

You may need to fiddle around with the game's graphics settings and resolutions to obtain a good graphics quality vs. framerate balance.
While the mobile 8600 video card is quite powerful you need to set your expectations right for it and don't force resolutions or settings that it may not be able to handle under really heavy graphics usage. -
^yeh. it's just that on other forums etc, people say they are able to play with 30fps throughout, with 8600m gt high settings.

Yeah. Also other things like the computer's total RAM and background applications can affect a game's performance.
What are the specifications of your computer? -
ram: 3gb ram
CPU: T8300 2.4ghz
GPU: 8600m gt 512mb
OS: XP Prof -
It is a system quite fit for gaming. I guess you just need to play around with the game graphics settings to obtain a good graphics vs. framerate balance.
It tends to happen in many games that it seems to work fine with certain settings and levels but when things get crazy their framerates go down.
Also, check to see if there are any patches for the game itself. Sometimes, performance issues are solved by installing a game's latest patch. -
ok cool thanks for the feedback, i'll just play around and see what i get, but i have already installed the latest patch. Thanks anyway.
