Hello, today I was configuring the Inspiron E1705, and was very close to buying it. While talking with the dell personal, he brought down the price to $1800 while active EPP and other coupons and reductions were enact. Do you think this is a great price for the configuration below or overpriced??

Overpriced. That price should be with a 7200 rpm drive as well as a warranty...don't buy. I got mine with a everything you have except 60 gb 7200 rpm drive, 4 year complete care and 512 mb ram. Upgrade from newegg, it's cheaper.

    Hey Blazin,

I just ordered my E1705 on Tuesday! I'm a recreational gamer so I didn't want to spend too much. It was between the E1705 and the Toshibal P105-S921. I posted my configuration on here, very similar to yours and I was also told I paid too much. But check this out, I went through my company's employee discount program and got 34% off the top, 12% off for taking the 4yr warranty, 2% off for financing with dell, and a $150 rebate off of the warranty. My Dell went from $3700.00 all the way down to $2059.00 out the door! Warranty and all! I loaded it up with the T2600 2.16GHz proc, the 1007200rpm GB HD, Bluetooth, Nvidia GF 7900GS video card , Media Center, 2Gb memory, HDAudio, 9 cell battery, the whole nine! I was told I could play my Call of Duty, Medal of Honor on a cheaper system. maybe so but I figured with the hjuge discounts I might as well get a system that could handle other games as well and last me a long time! Oh and I got free shipping! You might save maybe a couple hundred but I personally didn't want to buy parts here and there. I wanted to buy in one place and if anything goes wrong I go back to the same place. That's me. I'm happy with my deal and look forward to getting mine any day now! I got the 4yr in home warranty so if there is any problems they come to me!!! I also work with a bunch of engineers so I can go to them as well! By the way that employee discount program is sweeeet!!

I've found that one thing has been consistant with advice I've seen here and that is the E1705 is the best value and the best bang for your buck! That was good enough for me! Good Luck!!! If you get it PM me and let me know what you think!!!

yea, do what he said on the ram.

    Here's what I got:
Windows XP Media Center Edition + Media Center Restore CD (to get rid of annoying extra programs)
Intel Core DuoProcessor T2500 (2GHz/667MHz FSB)
17 inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WUXGA
    512MB, DDR2, 533MHz 2 Dimm
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800
Free 100GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive upgrade from 60GB
    8X DVD+/-RW Drive
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card (54Mbps)
Integrated High Definition Audio, for XPS M1710
80 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    1 Year Limited Warranty.

Total Price (After taxes and coupon): $1,394.96

Then throw in 2GB of 667MHz Ram for about $190.

So in total, less than $1,600 for my setup.

    Just my two cents man.

One year standard warranty - but I have buyer protection from my Charge charge, so it is 2 years.

I paid $1256 for the same system 5 days ago. Same speed, same screen, same video. The total was just high enough to allow me to use a $750 off coupon.

Have you looked for a coupon? There is a button up above to see the latest coupons.

Thanks everyone for the help. When I went with the 3 yr warranty I got about 200 off, then 400 instantly (EPP) then 100 mail in rebate. But when I applied the 750, the guy said you can take either the 400 or the 750! howcome everyone has the cheapest deals and I cant seem to do that. Im part of the employee discount program and everything! :(

    Blazin,

Don't feel bad. I couldn't use the coupon on this site either. Since I was getting all of the other discounts it would'nt alow me to apply the coupon as well. Would have been nice!!! Good luck with the E1705. Mine is shipping out Monday the 15th and hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week!!!

    Best wishes!

That's where your cost increased over mine... you got a good warranty. I just went with the plain 1 year warranty.

As for the coupons you just have to figure it out both ways and use the one that saves you the most. But I would tell the salesman to convert that mail in rebate to an instant off... I hate mail in rebates.

Good luck! I'm impatiently waiting for my laptop to arrive.

Though we all paid a good price, maybe a little extra but I guess dell needs to survive and make profit..after there stock margin this year, they have to compensate for losses.

but um, I might wait untill July 4th were theres rumors that a major sale might hit..

Other than that, I feel that people are paying way less than what im going to have to pay :/

Do you guys think there is going to be an other $750 coupon when it expires on 6/15 ??

This week Dell raised the price for T2400 processor on E1705 by almost 200 bucks (but not on the E1505... strange !!) compared to the earlier weeks. That's really why you are seeing this big difference.

I went to the Dell store in the mall on Friday wanting to compare the 1705 w/ the 1505 in person (yet again). I asked the rep who's seen me looking before if they could give better deals than online and he told me to wait until Thursday, when the new deals come out, that prices were higher this week due to Father's Day "promotion".

I guess Dell is trying to capitalize on wives not knowing the latest Dell deals.
