If I buy a Studio 15 from the Dell Outlet, and it's a previously ordered item, does it come with all the things that would come with it as if I bought it from Dell Home? I'm talking about all the setup discs and such.

Also, does Dell include the Vista OS disc with previously ordered items?

    Thanks!

It does, but last time I ordered from Dell Outlet my owner's manual was in some other language. Though Dell was happy to ship me an english one.

I have another question. Where do you get a media remote? Is it only through Dell Home? I can't get it through the Outlet?

Its very surprising just HOW cheap companies are nowadays. Cant even give you a copy of an OS for the license YOU own (OEM Copy). Props to Dell on that.

**Even though most consumers have NO idea how to re-install an OS** ;)

For us avid users, it is a pleasurable amenity however!

In most cases people lose the disc or they get scratched, and for most they never even have to use the disc. Then there is the buildup of waste from creating all those disc for every pc built. I'm sure the computer companies weren't trying to save the environment, but the less printing of paper manuals and disc have to be better for the environment.

dell outlet usually ships everything just like whats in a new comp.
however, if not, u can still get free copies of os and driver & utilities from dell
anytime. there is free online technical support in ur dell account.

Yup Dell is far more decent than HP when it comes to the Vista OS. Dell sometimes even sends out the OS disks if the warranty of the computer is expired. :)

I've bought five laptops and two desktops from the Dell Outlet in the last two years. One laptop was 'Refurbished', one laptop and one desktop were 'Scratch & Dent' and the rest were 'Previously Ordered New'. Regardless of those categories, they arrived in new packaging, with all manuals, documentation, backup media (CD) and accessories. I'm a big proponent of the Dell Outlet for anyone who wants to save money.

I have a Studio 15 from the Dell Outlet and it was a 'Previously Ordered New' model. It came with the Vista Reinstall CD, numerous driver CDs, and copies of all applications and utilties.

Are you asking about the Vista OS CD because you want to do a clean install?

    Thank you for the info!!!!!!

And for the Vista OS CD it would be partly for the clean install, and partly for if something goes wrong i can use the CD.

When I bought a HP laptop for my sister a few weeks ago it came with a crapload of bloatware that I tried for hours to clean up and still didnt achieve it because it didnt come with a OS CD. :(

Mine changed from order processing to In Production today. It was supposed to ship out today and be to me tomorrow but I don't see that happening now. The delivery date still shows as tomorrow but I doubt it.

I got the Studio today. One large problem, they did not include a Vista OS CD nor did they put the Vista CD key on the laptop. Will Dell send me an OS disc if I ask for free?

Ok, I just checked and you're right. It's underneath the battery. That's a real idiotic place for it. I have a copy of Vista Ultimate but I don't think it'll work using that key since the laptop has Home Premium. I e-mailed Dell to see if I can get a Vista disc from them.

They put it under the battery so wear and tear doesn't wear out the tag. I had an HP for only 5 months and the tag was already illegible by then. This way, it protects it - not too stupid to me.

I may be wrong, but if it's an OEM Vista disc shouldn't it have all versions of Vista on it? The determining factor is the cd key. If you enter the Dells Home Premium cd key on an OEM Vista cd, it should install Vista Home...

Unless of course you have a Vista Ultimate from another manufacturers computer - I don't think those always include every version of Vista...

My 1520 didn't come with any OS DVD. When my hard drive failed I told dell they didn't include the OS DVD and they sent me a set for free.

I was wrong, I had Vista Home Premium Retail but for some reason after it got to the install screen the DVD drive was not detected, so I couldn't continue.

Retail OS CDs will contain all the versions.

I have heard of some of the Dell restore disks shipping with just one version. Very rare though.

I myself am buying a Latitude XT through Dell Outlet and have every confidence in Dell. I have an HP Tx2500 and at least Dell ships restore CDs. All HPs will need to burn their own CDs, which may or may not seem like an advantage to you. I personally see it as a disadvantage since its technically a restore to bloatware status rather than a true OS disk.
