Well, once you get it, you can look at the screen and this one part of your brain will tell you if it's grainy. Unless of course, that you're psychic, then you'd know already.

I guarantee it. All the parts that are sent back after replacement (meaning all our grainy screens or broken stuff), and they are used for refurbished stuff.

crap... that sucks. Is there anywhere we can buy replacement screens and install them ourselves?

Actually from what I hear, there have been far fewer complaints for refurbished stuff.

I bought a refurbished 1520. Looooove it. No screen problems whatsoever. However, the RAM was bad straight out of the box.

Heh but RAM is an easy fix in comparison. But were both sticks bad or just one?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's how their system works. They use refurbished parts from returned systems. But honestly, just keep returning it to them until you end up with a good machine. Refurbished doesn't have to mean crap.

i have been thinking about this myself going with a 1720 refurb i saw, but i know all the issues ive had with brand new i cant imagine the refurb's being that much better... it seems nearly 50% or more 1500/1520's right now have something wrong with the display either grain, bleeding, bad color etc... whatever it is.. ive said this before ive went to best buy and circuit city and office depot i could not find one screen that was as bad as the dell ones i have recieved yet unless they were a completely defective screen meaning broken or lines in them etc and with those i usually can safely assume its from them being a display model and getting abuse in store.. junt my 2 cents.. if i didnt get the deal i got on my system id be looking elsewhere in a heartbeat

I bought a refurb also. No screen problems in fact the screen is much better than the i8100 that the 1520 replaced. I had a problem with the keyboard though. The tab key quit working after 2 days. I chatted with Dell and they sent me another one next day. It took all of 3 minutes to swap and everything is perfect.
