Hello everyone! We've decided to order a notebook for my Mom, and have narrowed it down to the Vostro. Preferably, she'd like to have the 17 inch version, and to stay under budget we'd have to go with the 1.6GHz CPU instead of 1.8GHz. I'm just not sure how much of a sacrifice in power this will be.. Do you think it's worth it for the larger screen?

    Thanks

Yeah. It won't be much of a difference.

no...it gets old after awhile for a laptop, and with it not being a MacBook Pro, it'll weigh a lot. I would go for a 15 inch (1500) due to the fact that it is semi-mobile and can be configured almost the same way for less.

I'd say it depends on how much she'll be moving it around and how much she wants the 17" screen. Also, what will she be using the laptop for? If she's not doing anything very intense with it, the 1.6 GHz processor should be fine.

The difference in processor speed won't be something that she would notice, so it's not a deal breaker.

It would be better to go for a smaller, more mobile laptop, though. 15.4" is very doable for screen size.

well if you want it to be budget then maybe you should try the vostro 1000, 1400 or 1500, because if she isnt gonna use it for gaming or other intense stuffs, 14-15 inch is very good already. 17" is very heavy so i prefer smaller screen size if possible.....another thing is that 14 inch you can get really good deals with lots of upgrades.....for example i bought mine for $688+tax check my sig for info of my 1400....in the end it is still up to you to choose what you or your mom would like this is just an advice and i prefer a 14 inch

    i love my laptop lolz
