Buying a M1330, D630 or waiting for the E latitudes???
Can someone "in the know" about E latitudes post some information without compromising NDA agreements, etc?
I would hate it to buy an M1330 to find out that the E latitude models comes out a few months after and better fits my needs.
I am currently considering either the latitude D630 or the M1330. I would think that anything lower than T8xxx processors is not worth it considering what is coming. I am not in a hurry to buy so to me the idea is that I can wait a few months if I can get a technology that is more energy efficient. Battery life and low heat dissipation are important to me. The D630 ultra bay thing is also a plus in my opinion so the E latitude will be a better fit for this.
My definition of the ideal portable is a 14 laptop with over 6 hours of battery life (in power save mode) which weight 4.5 lbs or so.
What are the current trends for what is coming in the next few months besides the E latitudes? What should we be looking for? Are we going to see major changes in the laptop world in the upcoming months?
Any information or opinions will be appreciated.

I don't think there will be any major changes in the next few months. You'll see newer Penryn's, the Montevina refresh - it's all a part of new technology. The E latitude looks like a slick machine. If you can afford to wait - then wait it out!

^ What he said. There's always something cooler and faster right around the corner. If you need a laptop right now then buy one. If not, wait until you do. Simple as that.

I agree with you jb1007. My thinking is that the best option in my case is to wait to see what the E series will be and cost. The problem is that this is suspected to happen only in 4 to 5 months. That’s a long run but manageable.
If I would get a very aggressive price from DELL for a M1330, maybe, maybe I could consider it, if it sports a maybe cooler T9300. I have configured a Lenovo T61 with a T9300 and it comes at 1400 CAD… the same config on a M1330 currently goes for 1999 CAD. The M1330 prices were good at the end of February and since then, they seem to have worsen their price or tried to push older CPU (T5xxx) on people to lower their stock. This kind of made me think they were preparing to launch new things.
I wonder how much the T8xxx and T9xxx CPU can reduce heat dissipation and power consumption. I have seen some M1330 owners report bad case of units starting to overheat after a few months ordering them. Let’s hope it will not generalise. This being said, I trust the DELL brand and so far, they have been standing behind their reputation well if you talk to the right person for support, etc. The latitude line seems more robust in term of longevity and it is part of the reason why I would want to wait for the E latitude models.
