As with many products, buying them in the US is much cheaper than buying them here in the UK.

The Dell Inspiron 9300 is no different, and when coupled with the '$750 off' coupon, the price is too good to pass up.

    Two problems however:
    1. Will US Dell ship to the UK?
    2. Is the Dell warranty international?

I've had a scout around the site, but havn't found any definitive answers - just things that discourage me, such as the lack of a 'country' box when selecting the shipping address.

If anyone knows anything about buying US Dells from overseas, I'd appreciate your help.

The US site wouldn't allow you to ship to UK. There would be no point in different sites if that was possible. Perhaps you could have a friend in the US order for you, then mail it to you. Or there is ebay.

I supposed I should have guessed as much. It drives me mad to think that a laptop can cost twice as much here as it does in the US.

As wong3541 stated, Dell will not ship orders from their US site to other contries (they won't ship to Canada or Mexico from their US site either). The only way you can get a US Dell is to buy one online from a 3rd party store or auction site or if you know someone in the states that could ship it to you after they get it.

It sucks for other countries as they don't have the coupon codes or hardly any other promotions. I spent $2080 for my XPS Gen. 2 with the 35% off coupon. People from Canada have reported paying this much or more for a Inspiron 9300.

I think it would make you cry to know how much they cost over here : (

Why do I not know anyone in the US? Oh woe is me

Heh, I know the feeling. It is similar in Germany vs. US, though the UK prices are usually even higher.

    Dell I 6000 - P-M 740 1.73Ghz, 512mb DDR2, 60GB, DVD-RW, 128mb x300

    US Dell Site: $1929 (=£1100)
US Dell Site with 30% off coupon: $1350 (=£770)

UK Dell site (with automatic free double memory - 1GB): £1160 (=$2030).

I was suprised to see that the initial prices are quite similar, but once you apply the coupons available in the US, the prices are suddenly an ocean apart.

If I did buy from the US, can anyone tell me if the Dell warranty is international? Or whether one of the warranty options available at purchase is international?

I don't believe Dell' standard warranty is international, but I do believe you can upgrade to it.

I can answer this since I am the one responsible for working with Dell for my company. We buy PCs for the US, Canada, Bermuda, and Brazil. All 4 are different units of Dell with different pricing.

No Dell will not ship anything outside of the US. You will have to deal with the regional Dell unit.

The warranty is not international. Although if you bought something in the US, it is possible to have that warranty transferred to the local unit but it may cost some money.

The best way to get this done is to have someone in the US buy the unit you want then ship it to you. You would have to ship this unit back to the person if you needed warranty service.

    I'm doing the same thing.

    Bought a I6000 - P-M 760 2Ghz, 1 GB DDR2, 80GB, 128 x300, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, Win XP MCE + tuner + free printer - all for $2187 - used the 35% off coupon which brought it to $1421.55 (£824.50)

    A similar system here (Dell UK), P-M 750 1.86, 1GB DDR2, 80GB, 128 x300 802.11b/g, bluetooth - without XP MCE is ~ $2413.80 (£1400).

    Thats a saving of $992.24 (£575.50).

Now, at worse it will take $150 (£87) to ship over the laptop... so there is a huge chunk of money saved if brought over from Dell USA and shipped to UK :) - The higher the spec, the higher the saving.
