Yeah, I am sure there are very few guys like me out there.

i have been using apple exclusively for close to 8 years, and trust me I do lpve them. But as a serious programmer (one whose company has provided him with an MSDN account) I think it is best go with a machine that can run all the free software I get :)

I ordered the e1705 with most of the useful upgrades on Saturday night and I am eeeeeeeeeeeeeagerly awaiting its arrival.

Just wanted to say hello, and yes I will probably have to ask a million questions involving Drivers etc....

    Thanks for the welcome....

I think the worst part of waiting for a dell is when you actually see the various phases... it is driving me freaking insane.

Just can't wait to ge tmy hands on that thing....

Gotta get world of warcraft on it though:centrino:

LOL, welcome to the forums guys...

and if you are curious, it will take 3 days in the boxing stage, so don't freak out. Most of the new users to dell start getting scared when it takes that long.

    Enjoy your systems :)

IT TAKES 3 DAYS TO PUT IT IN THE BOX!?!?!?!?

NOOOOOOOOOO... I was thinking it would take a few minutes at the most.

I was so desperate for the new toy that I paid for next day delivery.
I thank you for the update, I can go back to living a normal life and forget sending my boss an explanation why I won't be at work on Wednesday... LOL

LOL, yeah well it takes dell longer to put it in a box j/k

The boxing phase is when the laptop is being shipped from Malaysia to Tennessee. It normally takes about a week to week 1/2 to go through the whole phase, and shipment. It should be delivered before your estimated delivery date.

You can always check the status of your laptop online.

    LOL, that's not lame.

Lame would be checking your status every two hours. Then calling dell up when it was in boxing for the entire weekend.
    <<-- lame

it's not lame whatsoever. I actually had avant browser installed just have have the feature to refresh my order every 30 second. Now, tha's lame. :) But hey, I was eager to see my order status changing.

PS: while you are waiting for your laptop, go to dell.com and chat with them and request: Windows XP OS cd, Power DVD, Aplication cd, Dell Drivers & Utilities CD and very important: Item #: DH371 Kit,Software,Dell Media Direct,REPAIR,West. (these cd's don't come with your laptop, you have to request them) Dell should ship it for free to you. They did for me.

And if you are going to reformat your hardrive cause the preinstalled windows on the laptop has so many junk softwares. Make sure to read this first: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=40902&page=7 THEN click the guide by nucomer: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfo...ps_port_hdd&message.id=92&query.id=374312#M92

Take care. And welcome to the club. I also have the E1705 and its excellent.

    Thanks Rob!

I am going to do that asap... I have winodws XP professional I planned on installing as well. I hate the out-of-box setups that are heaped on new machines. Just a waste of close to 4 gigs of space

well hopefully by the time you get your laptop, you won't have to go thru all of the mess that other E1705 users had to go thru.

I haven't figured it all yet, and I'm still researching on it, but I think you can delete your restore partition, and Media Direct will still work. You just have to be careful about your other partitions.
