    Hey,

I'm a Dell UK Home customer and a owner of a Dell XPS M1530, I made a mistake of purchasing the laptop without any insurance as it is expensive and what-not and loosing it would be a major pain to me.

So I was wondering, is it possible to buy the insurance from Dell after the laptop has been bought, I'm mainly looking for something that comes accidents as well as thieft, but I can settle for accidents only.

Any ideas or advice would be helpful, thanks guys.

i got the accidental coverage after i got it. I purchased the extended warranty when I got it. The accidental coverage couldn't be any longer than the original period.

It won't cover theft, at least in the US. If you're in the orig 1 year warranty period, you can extend the general warranty and/or also purchase the accidental warranty- dropping it, etc.

If you want theft coverage, you need to have it covered by your homeowners or renters insurance, at least in the US. Hope this helps

Alot of renters insurance and home owner's insurance policies will cover it. Check your local policy to find out.

I think just about ANY retailer will take your money on a product up to 30 days if not longer after the purchase if you want to buy their warrantee.

A tip in general, check the manufacturers web site for extended warrantee info. Often it is cheaper and just as good if not better than the higher priced big box buy in store ones. I saved $400 on a C.C. one for my TV one buying sony direct and it was even for one more year than the C.C. one.

I've had the laptop for about 2 months where do I stand? I called Dell and the woman on the line said it wasn't possible to upgrade it or something or another.

I do not know what their official policy is but I would bet she would know. You can try again and call back and get someone else but if their policy is 30 days then you are probably stuck.

They can't leave it open ended otherwise someone would take advantage and buy the protection AFTER they broke the laptop. For them to make a profit on it it has to be in advance and only a certain percentage of people who bought it acutally use it. Their not dumb ;) They ran the numbers and know how to make that buck!
